It gives the Washington DC Chapter of NIGP, Recognition Committee great pleasure to announce that Ashley Willis, Contract Specialist, Government of the District of Columbia Department of General Services has been chosen as this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Contract Specialist Award and a $50 Visa egift card. The award is to commend a public procurement contract specialist who displays excellence in the process of determining the customer requirements, reviewing specifications and requirements, developing and issuing bids, evaluating offers and selecting the vendor, arriving at a fair and reasonable price and terms, preparing contracts or purchase orders, facilitating vendor relations, and following up on administrative contract provisions.
Ashley is a detail-oriented, autonomous professional who takes pride in completing contract actions timely and accurately. She maintains a substantial standard of work aligned with a high level of productivity, often taking on new responsibilities with minimal guidance or direction. She has a strong grasp and understanding of the job responsibilities, and most importantly, she is a team player who works with a “no team member left behind” mindset.
Over the last 17 months, she has genuinely stepped up to assist her Contracting Officer as a new supervisor and is always willing to jump in to help keep priorities moving and on track. During an agency audit, Ashley volunteered without any reservation to assist in compiling the required documentation accurately and timely. She did an outstanding job responding to the Chief Procurement Officer’s inquiries and assumed the sole responsibility for updating the independent auditors tracking log accurately. She works extended hours, including evenings and weekends, to help manage the team workload.
She exceeds expectations and is able to perform duties two steps above her current grade. In summary, Ashley is a highly dedicated contract specialist with a strong sense of work ethic exemplified by the consistent level of effort she puts forth daily. She is ambitious and eager to learn. Her genuine interest in the procurement profession greatly indicates her potential to excel and rise in the ranks.
